Maddox tells Rome how difficult it is for their parents to grasp that they have always felt uneasy as a girl. They request that Rome talk with their parents, and the instructor understands that their father, Clark Ainsworth, is the bully who erected the “Whites Only” sign on the water fountain. Clark and Claire acknowledge that the “whole Maddox thing” is difficult to comprehend. Rome refers to Maddox using he/him pronouns throughout the discussion, making the parents uncomfortable. Later, they request that the dean dismiss Rome quickly because he is the source of the “Maddox crisis.”

Meanwhile, Regina attempts to surprise Tyrell at his Yale mixer but discovers he did not attend. Tyrell later lies to Gina when she inquires about it. He storms away when she confronts him. Tyrell, according to Valley, does not want to attend Yale.
