Smallville’s Jor-El actor, Julian Sands, is confirmed to have gone missing while hiking in the Southern California mountains.
Smallville actor and Leaving Las Vegas star Julian Sands has gone missing in the California mountains.
Per ABC 7 news (KABC), Sands is one of two hikers who went missing in the Mt. Baldy area of Southern California. Sands’ family reported him missing on Friday, Jan. 13. “His wife did report him missing,” Gloria Huerta from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed. “From what I understand, he left sometime that day for a hike and when he did not return, his family reported him missing.”
Sands was born in Otley, West Yorkshire as the third of five boys raised by their single mother Brenda. Sands’ career began with several supporting roles in films such as 1984’s The Killing Fields before achieving relative stardom as the romantic lead in 1985’s A Room with a View. Sands would go on to star in 1989’s cult classic Warlock, as well as its sequel Warlock: The Armageddon in 1993.
Genre fans would later see Sands take on prominent roles in 1990’s Arachnophobia, 1993’s Boxing Helena and 2002’s Rose Red by Steven King. Sands also played the role of Jor-El, Superman’s biological father, on Smallville, which he reprised for the series’ final season in 2011. Sands’ most recent performance as Jor-El was followed four years later by more work under the DC umbrella as Dr. Gerald Crane on Gotham.
