Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Kelli Giddish returns to the franchise in set photos from the upcoming Organized Crime/SVU crossover.
Per TVLine, Giddish was spotted on set alongside longtime SVU stars Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay as detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. Giddish, who is set to reprise her role of detective Amanda Rollins, marked her exit from the series in December 2022 during its 24th season.
Amanda Rollins Departure From Law & Order
At the time, Giddish described working with Law & Order‘s crew to develop a proper sendoff for the fan-favorite character audiences had gotten to know since her debut in 2011. “We worked on this storyline together,” Giddish explained. “I think the last episode culminated the beautiful Rollins and Benson relationship, and we got to see Carisi and Rollins get married, which was such a treat.”
In April, it was announced that Giddish would return for the upcoming SVU/Organized Crime crossover, which covers the former’s 24th season finale and the penultimate episode of the latter’s third season. The crossover will mark the first time Giddish has appeared on-screen alongside her former cast mates since her character married Peter Scanavino’s Assistant District Attorney Dominick Carisi Jr. and subsequently left the Special Victims Unit to embark upon life as a teacher.
Law & Order: Organized Crime debuted in 2021 and followed Meloni’s Detective Stabler after his transition from retirement to a new place on a task force within the Organized Crime Control Bureau, where he is given a chance to go after his wife’s killers. The series also stars Danielle Moné Truitt as Sergeant Anyanna Bell, Stabler’s direct superior and partner, as well as Tamara Taylor as Professor Angela Wheatley and Dylan McDermott as Richard Wheatley as the main antagonists of Organized Crime‘s first two seasons.
Law & Order Slate Renewed For New Seasons
In April, it was announced that NBC’s slate of Law & Order series were renewed for further seasons, as were the shows under the Chicago franchise umbrella. Under the current renewal terms, which stand as a two-year extension to creator and producer Dick Wolf’s existing five-year deal signed in 2020, both franchises will remain in production at the network through 2027. In a statement, Wolf proclaimed that his work with Universal Television “has been, and continues to be, one of the most successful partnerships in television, and I am thrilled that we are keeping the trains running another four years.”
Law & Order: SVU airs every Thursday at 9/8 Central on Peacock, while Organized Crime airs the same day at 10/9 Central.
