Current box office tracking suggests that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be unable to beat Thor: Love and Thunder’s opening of $144M.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is on track to open lower than Thor: Love and Thunder, but higher than the previous two Ant-Man films.
According to Boxoffice Pro, Marvel Studios is looking at a very promising domestic opening weekend debut for its first Phase 5 title, with Quantumania expected to earn between $96 and $131 million in its first three days. While that number is lower than the opening weekends for recent MCU titles Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($181M) and Thor: Love and Thunder ($144M), it would still vastly exceed the opening debuts for 2015’s Ant-Man ($57.2M) and 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp ($75.8M).
Starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly as the titular superhero duo, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will launch Phase 5 of the MCU with an Avengers-level film that pits the pint-sized heroes against the time-traveling supervillain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). Quantumania also stars Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Randall Park as Jimmy Woo and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on Feb. 17.
