With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania nearing release, Marvel Studios finally reveals the name of William Jackson Harper’s mysterious MCU character.
William Jackson Harper’s role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been revealed.
In an exclusive preview for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Empire has disclosed that Harper’s character is named Quaz and that he is a telepath and member of the freedom fighters living inside the Quantum Realm. Empire also debuted the first look at Harper’s Quaz, showing the Quantumania character standing beside Katy M. O’Brian’s Jentorra, another freedom fighter that is railing against injustices felt within the minuscule metropolis.
Best known for his breakout role as Chidi in NBC’s The Good Place, Harper’s casting in Quantumania was first reported in October 2022, although at the time his role remained under wraps. At the time, the secrecy surrounding his role in the film led many Marvel fans to speculate that he had been cast as the Earth-616 version of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Harper has now been confirmed to be playing the telepath Quaz, a character that has seemingly been created for the upcoming film as there is no direct counterpart with that name in the Marvel Comics Universe.
Ant-Man and the Wasp Take on Kang the Conqueror
After going up against Yellowjacket and Sonny Burch in Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) respectively, the titular superheroes (and part-time Avengers) will be facing their biggest threat yet: Kang the Conquerer. Jonathan Majors, who plays the time-traveling supervillain in the upcoming threequel, first played a variant of Kang known as He Who Remains in Loki‘s Season 1 finale. Majors has teased that Kang will add “real conflict and real friction” to the MCU, with the character already confirmed to antagonize the Avengers in the upcoming 2025 film, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and sees Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/The Wasp accidentally sucked into the Quantum Realm with Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang, leading to the pint-sized heroes embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond their limits and pit them against Kang the Conqueror.
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprise their roles from previous MCU films as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/The Wasp, respectively, with Kathryn Newton replacing Abby Ryder Fortson and Emma Fuhrmann as Cassie Lang. Quantumania will also see the return of Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo. David Dastmalchian and Bill Murray also star.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opens in theaters on Feb. 17, as the first film of Phase 5 of the MCU.
