Footage from the set of Captain America: New World Order gives fans a sneak peek at the Serpent Society.

The footage, which was posted to Twitter on May 15 by photographer Christopher Oquendo, sees cast and crew standing next to one of the set’s massive camera rigs as they appear to prep for and shoot a short sequence. Two of the actors are adorned in dark green hooded jackets, which are presumably the new suits for the villainous Serpent Society set to make its Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the upcoming Captain America sequel.

Who is the Serpent Society?

The Serpent Society has long menaced Captain America in the world of Marvel Comics, with their first appearance taking place back in 1985’s Captain America #310 by writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Paul Neary. This early iteration of the team featured supervillains Anaconda, Cobra, and Rattler, well before the group would expand its membership to encompass more than two dozen snake-themed costumed criminals.

On May 3, it was reported that the latest entry into the MCU’s Captain America series will quite possibly be undergoing a name change, as per a post that noted that “Captain America: Untitled releases a year from today!” No official sources have confirmed the news, which came from entertainment scooper CanWeGetSomeToast on Twitter, who is fairly reliable.

Captain America: New World Order is set to see Anthony Mackie return to the silver screen as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America, alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, aka the Falcon. Apart from its main cast of MCU characters, the film will see multiple actors from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk reprise their original roles, including Live Tyler as Betty Ross and Time Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns, better known as the super villainous Leader. Harrison Ford will make his MCU debut as General Thunderbolt Ross, who was initially portrayed in the Edward Norton-led The Incredible Hulk by William Hurt, who returned to the role for 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and 2021’s Black Widow. Hurt tragically passed away in March 2022 at the age of 71.

Captain America: New World Order opens in theaters on May 3, 2024.
