Coven of Chaos Set Photo Hides an Unexpected Easter Egg

Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision

A set photo from the production of Marvel Studios’ Agatha: Coven of Chaos features an unexpected Easter egg from a critically-acclaimed HBO show.

An Agatha: Coven of Chaos set photo from star Joe Locke has seemingly teased the return of WandaVision‘s show-within-a-show format.

“Ahhhh what is happening,” Locke captioned an Instagram Story post (via Reddit) that featured a director’s chair with “Agatha of Westview” sewn into the back. While some fans initially took Locke’s picture to mean that the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series had been retitled for the second time — the project was originally announced as Agatha: House of Harkness — others quickly pointed out that the font and style of the title logo were identical to that of the popular HBO series Mare of Easttown. This unexpected Easter egg has many speculating that Agatha will include television homages and tropes that were first introduced in WandaVision.

Who Is Joe Locke Playing in Coven of Chaos?

Locke was first reported to have joined the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos in November 2022. While his role remains under wraps, several fans have pointed out that 19-year-old Locke is the right age to possibly portray a teenage Billy Maximoff, who will reportedly appear in Coven of Chaos. Reports of his casting also described his undisclosed character as “a gay teen with a dark sense of humor,” which fans believe is another strong indicator that the actor will be bringing Billy a.k.a. Wiccan to life in the MCU.

After making her scene-stealing debut as Agatha Harkness/”Agnes” in WandaVision, Kathryn Hahn returns to the role in the upcoming Disney+ series, with Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfield Ford, David Payton, David Lengel, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Kate Forbes and Brian Brightman also reprising their respective roles from the 2021 Disney+ limited series. Actors that are set to make their MCU debuts in Agatha: Coven of Chaos include Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Eric André, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Patti LuPone, Miles Gutierrez-Riley and Okwui Okpokwasili.

Will Agatha Sing in Coven of Chaos?

With Coven of Chaos acting as a spinoff of WandaVision, fans are curious to see if the upcoming series will see Hahn’s Agatha burst into song. Hahn recently teased that there could be “a little song here or there.” However, she quickly added: “[B]ut no one is saying anything about that – certainly not me!” Hahn’s comment was a reference to the original song “Agatha All Along” from WandaVision, which revealed her character not to be the supportive neighbor she pretended to be, but the show’s main villain. “Agatha All Along” quickly went viral, debuting at number 36 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart and winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos premieres on Disney+ in Winter 2023.
