Star Wars sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley says she has heard from executives that the upcoming Disney+ series, The Acolyte, is ‘amazing.’

While audiences may be some time away from hearing about Disney+’s The Acolyte, Star Wars sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley recently assured fans they can expect good things.

Speaking to Variety, Ridley recalled getting the scoop on the upcoming Star Wars series from an industry insider. “I sat next to someone at the Wakanda Forever premiere, an executive, and they said [The Acolyte] is amazing.” She also feels confident the show’s star can cope with the pressure of being a female lead on a major Star Wars property. “Amandla Stenberg can handle herself. She’s been working for a long time.”

Created by Leslye Headland, The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller about a former Padawan who teams up with her old Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes. Set before the prequels at the end of the High Republic era, it takes viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers. Stenberg leads an ensemble cast featuring Dafnee Keen, Lee Jung-jae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Details are scarce, though Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously teased the upcoming series will draw from the now non-canon Extended Universe. She explained, “What’s wonderful about [showrunner Leslye Headland] is she knows it all. I mean, she’s read a gazillion books inside the E.U. [Expanded Universe]. There are little bits and pieces that she’s drawing from that no one has explored yet in onscreen storytelling.”

Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker

Ridley made her debut as Rey in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Force Awakens, in which she played a scavenger from Jakku, thrown suddenly into the war between the Rebellion and the Imperial remnant known as the First Order. Throughout the sequel trilogy, she was taught the ways of the Force and ultimately came to refer to herself as Rey Skywalker, after the family that mentored her.

The actor’s time with the franchise was not always pleasant, as both The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker became the subject of immense backlash online, leading to harassment against the films’ stars, including Ridley. She recently discussed her experience and imparted some advice for other female actors appearing in Star Wars. “It’s important to tune out the stuff… Not just with Star Wars, but with everything, you try and be in the moment and enjoy what it is because life moves quickly.” She concluded, “With people saying more than they need to and commenting more than they need to. It’s so individual. Find the good in it all and enjoy it.”

The Acolyte is scheduled to appear on Disney+ in late 2023.
