The Walking Dead: Dead City’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan address the possibility of a crossover with other Walking Dead spinoffs.
The Walking Dead: Dead City stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan recently suggested that the AMC post-apocalyptic drama series could crossover with its fellow Walking Dead spinoffs.
Morgan and Cohan addressed the possibility of Dead City crossing over with the likes of Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon in a joint interview with E! News. “I think the door is open because we are all on the same timeline,” Morgan said. “They are existing at the same time. So I think there is the opportunity to bring a character from this show, a character from that show, and do something else that can continue.” Cohan agreed, insisting there was “hope of a collision” between the various Walking Dead side projects.
This isn’t the first time Morgan has hinted at Dead City‘s potential connections to the wider Walking Dead universe. The actor, who plays villain turned anti-hero Negan Smith, suggested that the spinoff could reunite him with his Walking Dead co-stars in November 2022, shortly after that show’s final episode aired. “I’m happy to still be playing Negan in [The Walking Dead: Dead City], but I’m sad I don’t get an opportunity to work with these folks anymore — unless I do!” he said.
Negan Actor On The Walking Dead: Dead City
Morgan has since implied that guest appearances by The Walking Dead characters in Dead City could play a vital role in keeping Negan on the side of the angels. According to the star, Negan’s more respectable behavior in the original series’ later seasons was a result of him spending time in a group environment. Left to his own devices in Dead City, Negan is now at risk of regressing. “The group kind of tamed him in a lot of ways, and to fit in, he had to stop being who he was,” Morgan said. “And I think away from this group, he is likely to fall into some old traps and old behaviors.”
While Negan reverting to his more brutal mode of operations will likely worry fans of the character, him unleashing his brutal instincts could also keep him alive. The Walking Dead: Dead City showrunner Eli Jorne recently promised that the spinoff boasts “one of the most awesome, disgusting, terrifying walkers” ever to grace the franchise, which suggests that Negan will need to up his game if he hopes to survive.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 arrives on AMC in April 2023 and will run for six episodes.
