Ravensburger announces Disney Lorcana, a new trading card game featuring iconic characters, will release The First Chapter this fall.
Board game publisher Ravensburger has announced the release date of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter.
Starting on Aug. 18, the collectible trading card game Disney Lorcana will debut in local gaming stores. It will later launch for most retail outlets on Sept. 1. However, those attending Indianapolis’ Gen Con from Aug. 3 to Aug. 6 will have early access to a limited amount of Lorcana products. At the time of The First Chapter‘s release, the collection will include 200 game cards, three starter decks, a gift set, booster packs and the “Illumineer’s Trove.”
Each Disney Lorcana starter deck contains 60 cards with a booster pack of 12 randomized ones, one of which is a foil with two rare, super rare, or legendary rarity cards. The starter decks are Amber and Amethyst, Emerald and Ruby, and Steel and Sapphire. The gift set, which features Mulan and Hades, includes four standard booster packs, two oversized foil cards, two foil game cards and game tokens. The “Illumineer’s Trove” product collectible set contains eight booster packs, two deck boxes, a player’s guide and a storage box.
Disney’s New Trading Card Game
At 2022’s D23 Convention, Ravensburger unveiled seven Lorcana cards, which attendees could get their hands on early. Each card features spectacular illustrations, including one with an image of Mickey Mouse in a Brave Little Tailor-inspired outfit. The other drawings depicted Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Robin Hood, Elsa and Stitch. At this time, there are no live-action character cards for Lorcana. However, Ravensburger plans to release four Disney Lorcana sets per year.
Apart from Disney’s venture into the trading card world, the company unveiled Dreamlight Valley, a life simulation game featuring many Walt Disney characters. Released in August 2022, players must progress through Dreamlight Valley to restore the lost memories of its residents. Like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game syncs with the actual time on players’ consoles. However, Dreamlight Valley‘s characters, like Moana, Donald Duck and Ursula, have unique personalities.
In September 2022, D23 showcased footage of Dreamlight Valley‘s first DLC, Toy Story Adventure Realm. The update features several Pixar series characters and an area resembling Andy’s bedroom. Additionally, players can dress up like Woody or Buzz in new outfits. While Dreamlight Valley currently costs $29.99, the developer Gameloft confirmed its plans to transition the game into a free-to-play title sometime in 2023.
Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter arrives this fall.
