Netflix releases a 2023 movies sizzle reel featuring release dates and footage for a handful of its upcoming films, including Extraction 2.
Idris Elba’s Luther and Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake return in the first sizzle reel for Netflix’s upcoming 2023 film slate.
Netflix wants subscribers to “SAVE. THE. DATES” and mark their calendars for 2023. The streamer has just unveiled release dates and footage for several of its highly-anticipated films, including Extraction 2, Luther: The Fallen Sun, They Cloned Tyrone, Gal Gadot’s Heart of Stone and Millie Bobby Brown’s Damsel. The first footage from Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was also released, offering fans a new look at the director’s Star Wars-esque sci-fi epic.
Hemsworth’s Australian black ops mercenary is ready to come out of retirement in Extraction 2. After barely surviving that brutal fall off a bridge in the original 2020 action-packed movie, Rake will be tasked with another deadly mission: breaking into an impenetrable prison and rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster. The upcoming film reunites Hemsworth with director Sam Hargrave and producers Joe and Anthony Russo.
Luther: The Fallen Sun picks up after the events of the BBC series — which aired five seasons between 2010 and 2019 — with Elba’s disgraced detective John Luther still behind bars and haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him. When a gruesome serial killer begins terrorizing London, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary. The drama thriller also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley.
Star Wars, DC and Stranger Things Actors Headline New Netflix Films
Star Wars‘ John Boyega, Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot and Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown also have new movies coming to Netflix in 2023. Boyega stars alongside Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris in They Cloned Tyrone, an upcoming pulpy mystery caper that follows an unlikely trio pursuing a nefarious government conspiracy after a series of eerie events. Heart of Stone will see Gadot play the titular character, intelligence operative Rachel Stone, “the only woman who stands between her powerful, global, peacekeeping organization and the loss of its most valuable — and dangerous — asset.” Jamie Dornan also stars in the upcoming film, which Gadot has previously described as “extremely epic. It’s a super grounded, raw action-thriller.”
Brown, who has become one of Netflix’s biggest stars thanks to Stranger Things and the Enola Holmes films, headlines Damsel, an action-adventure film that also stars Angela Bassett (Black Panther), Robin Wright (Wonder Woman), Ray Winstone (Black Widow) and Nick Robinson (Jurassic World). The official logline for Damsel reads as follows: “A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.“
Luther: The Fallen Sun releases on Netflix on March 10, followed by Extraction 2 on June 16, They Cloned Tyrone on July 21, Heart of Stone on Aug. 11 and Damsel on Oct. 13.
