The Frasier sequel series will put a modern spin on the cult-classic sitcom, which is itself a spinoff of Cheers, and enjoyed an 11-year run on NBC between 1993 and 2004. The critically-acclaimed original series saw Grammer’s Frasier Crane return to Seattle after Cheers and get his life together following the end of his marriage to Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth). The sitcom, which also featured David Hyde Pierce as Niles, Jane Leeves as Daphne Crane and the late John Mahoney as Martin Crane, garnered a then-record 37 Primetime Emmy Awards by the end of its run in 2004.

Co-created by Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris, the upcoming revival series has been in the works since talks reportedly began in 2016. Paramount+ greenlit the series in 2021 and made its 10-episode order in October 2022. The revamped Frasier will see the eponymous psychotherapist return to Boston to begin a new chapter of his life.

Who Will Return For the Frasier Sequel?

Original Frasier cast members confirmed to return to the series alongside Grammer include Neuwirth, who will reprise her role as Frasier’s ex-wife in a recurring role, and Peri Gilpin, who once again plays Roz Doyle, the producer of Frasier’s radio show. The cast also includes Anders Keith as Niles and Daphne’s son David, Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s friend-turned-college professor and Toks Olagundoye as the head of an Ivy League psych department. Pierce, however, has not confirmed his involvement in the reboot as Niles, though he did state in July 2022 that fans should not expect him to appear in the series.

Frasier‘s series premiere episode will be titled “The Good Father,” a reference to the pilot episode of the original series, titled “A Good Son.” The title is also a tribute to Mahoney, who passed away in 2018 due to throat cancer complications. No other episode or plot details have been released about the series.

The Frasier reboot premieres via Paramount+ on Oct. 1.
