The second season of Good Omens will hit Prime Video this July.

A release date for the apocalyptic comic fantasy series was announced on Twitter by the official Good Omens account. “And on the 10th of May, we were given a date for season 2, and it is ineffably good,” the tweet reads. “Good Omens returns July 28th on @PrimeVideo.” A new Season 2 poster was also revealed, showing main characters Aziraphale and Crowley back-to-back in the bookshop. The quote on the poster, “Every day it’s a- getting closer,” may hint at a soundtrack choice in the new season.

Good Omens is based on a 1990 novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. The story centers on a fussy angel and a brazen demon who befriend each other behind the scenes and eventually must work together and against their respective superiors in Heaven and Hell to keep the world from meeting its predestined end.

What Makes Good Omens 2 Especially Ineffable

The TV adaptation of Good Omens premiered on Prime Video in 2019, starring Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale, who lives in the bookshop featured in the new key art, and David Tennant as the snake-eyed demon Crowley. Although the show was a hit and the performance of both actors drew great acclaim, most fans were surprised to find that it would be receiving a second season, as the six episodes of the first season covered the entirety of the events in the book. Plot details of the next arc are still being kept under wraps, although the story is said to involve a kind of murder mystery.

Pratchett, who was also known as the sole author of a long list of celebrated books, passed away in 2015. Gaiman’s writing career has continued going strong, with several of his acclaimed novels and comics in addition to Good Omens now being adapted into highly successful shows and movies, such as Netflix’s The Sandman and the upcoming Anansi Boys.

Good Omens Season 2 premieres on July 28, 2023. Sheen and Tennant will reprise their roles along with several other returning stars, and a variety of new characters will be joining them.
