Marvel Studios confirmed that Peter Quill/Star-Lord will make future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
MCU fans haven’t seen the last of Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord with the end credits of Volume 3 confirming that the beloved cosmic hero “will return” to the MCU in future projects. Pratt made his debut as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and reprised the role in the film’s 2017 sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). He also appeared alongside the rest of the Guardians in the films Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and the Marvel Studios Special Presentation The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (also 2022).
Chris Pratt Is Open to Returning as Star-Lord
With Star-Lord’s return now confirmed, Guardians of the Galaxy fans will have to wait and see where the character appears next in the MCU since a fourth Guardians of the Galaxy movie has not been announced by Marvel Studios at this time. Ahead of the threequel’s release, Pratt stated that he would have no issues with reprising the role so long as Marvel didn’t make his return feel like a cash grab.
“It would be strange to continue [Star Lord’s] story without James. He’s done such a masterful job in the first three films. We really found the voice of Peter Quill together and without him, obviously, I would never have had this opportunity… it’s his imagination on screen,” Pratt said. “So, to continue to tell the story, it would really be important to honor what he’s done in the first three films and to honor what the fans have grown to love about the character and not simply do it because people might show up to pay for it.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 follows the beloved band of misfits as their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Star-Lord, still reeling from the loss of Gamora in Infinity War, must embark with the rest of the Guardians on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life. This will bring the cosmic team in direct conflict with both Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).
Besides Pratt, returning cast members for the MCU threequel include Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog. Elizabeth Debicki and Sylvester Stallone also star.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
