Hogwarts Legacy, the highly anticipated Harry Potter game, dominates the best-selling charts on Steam and PlayStation weeks before its release date.

Hogwarts Legacy climbed the best-selling charts weeks before its release date.

Per Forbes, the Harry Potter RPG stole the top spot as the best-selling game for Steam and PlayStation 5. On Steam, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remains higher in revenue; the first-person shooter is a free-to-play title with microtransactions. As for Amazon’s best-selling PlayStation 5 games, Hogwarts Legacy leads the pack, with Sonic Frontiers and the upcoming Dead Space remake falling behind. For Xbox Series X|S, Hogwarts Legacy comes second to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

Hogwarts Legacy Release Editions

While Hogwarts Legacy releases on Feb. 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC users, Avalanche Software recently delayed the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions to April 4, with the Nintendo Switch edition coming out on July 25. This complicates things for people who bought the Deluxe Edition on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which grants players 72 hours of early access before Standard Edition purchasers. PlayStation Deluxe Edition holders will also gain access to an exclusive quest.

In addition to the Standard and Deluxe versions of Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche unveiled the game’s Collector’s Edition with a promotional video. With a $300 price tag, the Collector’s Edition comes with a Deluxe version of Hogwarts Legacy, the “Dark Arts Pack” for Dark Wizard cosmetics and a special battle arena, a ridable Thestral, 72 hours early access and a Kelpie Robe. The Collector’s Edition also includes a steel case and a mysterious floating wand that can activate a map of Hogwarts.

WB Denies J.K. Rowling’s Involvement

In September 2020, Warner Bros. Games confirmed that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is not involved in Hogwarts Legacy following the controversy surrounding her statements against the transgender community. “J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling,” the studio’s Frequently Asked Questions page answered.

Hogwarts Legacy launches on Feb. 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will launch on April 4. Hogwarts Legacy also releases on July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
