How Fast X Star Alan Ritchson Embarrassed Himself in Front of Vin Diesel: ‘I’m an Idiot’

Fast X star Alan Ritchson recalls telling Vin Diesel he’d never seen a Fast & Furious movie and the embarrassment that followed.

Fast X star and franchise newcomer Alan Ritchson admits to making a major blunder in front of Vin Diesel.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, the actor recalled an embarrassing situation that he feared may have put his future in the franchise in jeopardy. “I didn’t watch any other ones, and I let Vin know. I go ‘Hey man, I hadn’t really watched any of them. I watched the first one in high school, and now that I got the part I’ve seen them all, and I just love what you’ve been doing with the last two decades.’ And he was like ‘I…thank you. I appreciate that,'” said Ritchson. “He’s spent 20-plus years of his life, this is his baby! I’ve spent a couple years working on Reacher. It’s such a fixture in my life, if somebody was like ‘Thanks for having me on Reacher, man, I haven’t watched any of them,’ I’d be like ‘You’re the stupidest…why would you say that?!’ And this dude is decades in. I’m an idiot.”

While Ritchson may not have earned the ire of Diesel, the Dominic Toretto actor is reportedly notorious for starting feuds with members of the Fast & Furious cast. Most recently, a purported insider alleged that the franchise lead was frustrated with a different series newcomer: Jason Momoa. The report claims Diesel was annoyed at the Aquaman star’s scene-stealing performance and is refusing to take responsibility for Fast X‘s poor reception among critics. “Vin is embarrassed Jason is being branded the only bright spot in the film and stealing his thunder in the franchise he built himself,” the insider alleges.

Fast and Feud-ious

Another actor Diesel feuded with was Dwayne Johnson, who has been a recurring member of the ensemble since Fast 5 in 2011. The pair’s relationship soured following the premiere of 2017’s The Fate and The Furious and while they often tried to downplay the severity of the situation, The Rock stated in 2021 that we was done with the franchise. Recently, this conflict has seemingly been resolved as Johnson announced his return as Hobbs in a film that will serve as a “bridging chapter” movie between Fast X and Fast 11. No further details on the movie have been clarified.

Fast X is now playing in theaters around the world.
