Wolf Pack star Sarah Michelle Gellar says the new series will appeal to her fan base, one that’s followed her since Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar remains a popular figure from her days as the lead of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and her new show, Wolf Pack, aims to cater to the fan base that’s stuck with her for so long.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gellar spoke about her key role in the supernatural teen drama series and how it pays homage to her vampire-slaying past on TV. According to the actor, she believes the show serves a “new chapter” for her career while offering elements that serve followers of her old show. “To come back, to get projects made, you have to pay homage to what you’re known for,” she said. “If I do things that speak to the fan base — which I think these will — and gather some new people along the way, maybe I branch out again. It’s not a next act for me, but it’s certainly a new chapter.”
Gellar also said she is aware of the expectations attached to her comeback in Wolf Pack, including her ability to attract new audiences through her role in the series and her past on Buffy the Vampire Slayer getting examined through today’s proverbial lens. The actor also said she plans to use her voice “in the right way.”
The Story of Wolf Pack
Wolf Pack sees Gellar play Kristin Ramsey, an investigator and arson expert with a tragic past. The series, which is unconnected to Teen Wolf, focuses on teenagers whose lives are altered following a California wildfire that awakens a haunting supernatural creature. Gellar made a special appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con last July to announce her casting on the show.
Also serving as an executive producer on Wolf Pack, Gellar has spoken about using her experience on Buffy the Vampire Slayer to enhance the on-set experiences of her younger co-stars, saying she’s installed a system to better protect them. Her desire to create safer sets for her castmates comes from her experience of being branded difficult to work with during her Buffy days.
Gellar stars in Wolf Pack alongside Westworld star Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray. Based on Edo van Belkom’s 2004 book of the same name, the first clip from Wolf Pack offered fans a look at Gellar’s Ramsey and Santoro’s Garrett Briggs as they investigate a dangerous creature.
Wolf Pack premieres Jan. 26 on Paramount+.
