As of April, the futures of several scripted television shows at The CW were left up in the air, with only The Americans renewed for an additional season at the time. Among the shows in danger of cancelation were Walker: Independence, All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, Kung Fu, and The Winchesters. Alternatively, shows like Superman & Lois, and Walker were considered safe bets for renewal.

Walker Renewed for Season 4

Walker Independence premiered in October 2022 alongside the third season of Walker and aired for only 13 episodes. Though Independence has been canceled, Walker was renewed for a shortened fourth season by The CW. Season 4 will consist of 13 episodes instead of the typical 18.

“Over the past three seasons, Walker has become the top performing series on The CW with a passionate fanbase and a fantastic cast and creative team led by Jared Padalecki, who has now been a leading man on the network for over twenty years,” said Brad Schwartz, the President of Entertainment at The CW. “As we build a great big new future for The CW, we are thrilled to be staying in business with our partners at CBS Studios and we cannot wait to have Walker back on the schedule.”

Padalecki serves as an executive producer on both Walker and Walker Independence, which takes place in the 1800s nearly 150 years before the events of Walker. The prequel starred Katherine McNamara as Abby Walker, an ancestor of Padalecki’s Texas Ranger Cordell Walker, Matt Barr as Hoyt Rawlins, and Justin Johnson Cortez as an Apache tracker named Calian.

Walker stars Padalecki as the titular Texas Ranger and is a reboot of the CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger which ran from 1993 to 2001 and starred Chuck Norris. The series premiered on The CW in 2020 and followed the widowed Cordell Walker as he worked to solve the mystery surrounding his wife’s untimely death — played by Genevieve Padalecki, Padalecki’s real-life spouse.

Along with Padalecki, Walker stars Molly Hagan as Abeline Walker, Keegan Allen as Liam Walker, Violet Brinson as Stella Walker, Kale Culley as “Auggie” Walker, Coby Bell as Larry James, Jeff Pierre as Trey Barnett, Mitch Pileggi as Bonham Walker, Odette Annable as Geri Broussard and Ashley Reyes as Cassie Perez. Walker premiered the second half of its third season in February, with a Season 3 finale scheduled for May 11.
