A recent job listing suggests Electronic Arts may use Unreal Engine 5 instead of the company’s Frostbite to build its single-player Iron Man game.

A recent rumor claims Electronic Arts’ Iron Man game could be built on Unreal Engine 5.

As reported by Gaming Bolt, a job listing claims the single-player Iron Man game may use Unreal Engine instead of EA’s Frostbite. As seen in the available position for Senior Level Designer, the listed requirements include five years of experience and “familiarity with an advanced game engine like Unreal.” Other Electronic Arts-published titles that utilized Unreal Engine include Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the next mainline Mass Effect game.

What’s EA’s Upcoming Game Featuring Iron Man?

In September 2022, EA’s Motive Studio and Marvel announced their collaboration for an Iron Man video game. “We’re thrilled to share that an all-new single-player, third-person, action-adventure Iron Man video game is now in early development at Montreal-based Motive Studio,” the companies’ joint statement read. The same team working on the upcoming Dead Space remake will develop the Marvel project.

A month following EA’s Iron Man announcement, Marvel confirmed it would work with the video game company for “several new games.” Jay Ong, Executive Vice President at Marvel Games, stated, “At Marvel, we strive to find best-in-class teams who can take our characters on heroic journeys in ways they haven’t before, and collaborating with Electronic Arts will help us achieve that.” In addition to a Tony Stark-themed title, a July 2022 rumor suggests EA may develop a single-player Black Panther game. Allegedly, the potential title takes place after the death of the current Black Panther.

In November 2022, EA announced the Iron Man game’s playtesting period took place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2. Considering playtesting already began, it’s unclear how far along the development team is with the upcoming game, which currently has no release date. The Marvel project will feature an original story but include familiar plot elements for Iron Man fans, planning to “tap into the rich history” of the character by “channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark.”

In addition to his upcoming EA game, Iron Man recently received a new skin in Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers. Iron Man’s “Prime Armor” closely resembles the superhero’s snazzy suit in the Invincible comic run. The Model-Prime Armor (Model 51), as last featured in the October 2015 issue of Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 3) #1, can transform its limbs into various tools and alter its color and shape based on the situation. Also, the same day, Marvel’s Avengers dropped Hawkeye’s “Modern” Outfit. The game unveiled the “Werehawk” version of the archer on Dec. 29.

Motive Studio’s Iron Man game currently has no release window.
