Kitazawa commented:
“The guitar is one of the fundamental building blocks of pop music. Without it there would be no
blues, no country, no rock’n’roll. It’s also an indispensable tool for the expression of the freest of
emotions, untied to any rhyme or structure. To me, it’s the instrument that put me on a path
towards music obsession. Learning how to play the guitar expanded my mind, leading me to a
whole new understanding of the possibilities of what music can be. For this playlist I chose
tracks from the Nippon Columbia catalog that highlight the guitar. From the freeform stylings of
Kiyoshi Sugimoto and Kozaburo Yamaki (w/ Toshiyuki Miyama & His New Herd) to the heavy
sludge fuzz of Cosmos Factory and the soaring sustain of Fumio Miyashita (Far East Family
Band), these tracks demonstrate how the versatility of the instrument can conjure up
soundscapes as varied as the naturescapes of our planet”

Yosuke Kitazawa is a Grammy-nominated music producer based in Los Angeles, specializing in

worldwide. He is co-founder of Temporal Drift, a new record label that aims to bring fresh
contemporary and archival sounds from around the globe.
