DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are taking their DC Universe to the small screen, with five live-action and animated series announced during the recent Chapter One slate presentation.

Gunn and Safran’s long-term roadmap for the DCU has finally been unveiled, with the current release schedule being two movies and two television shows per year. The 10-year plan will be split into two chapters, with Chapter One titled Gods & Monsters. The first wave of DCU shows coming out during Chapter One are Creature Commandos, an animated series; Waller, a live-action series starring Viole Davis’ Amanda Waller that takes place between Seasons 1 and 2 of Peacemaker; Lanterns, featuring both the Hal Jordan and John Stewart Green Lanterns; Paradise Lost, which will be an origin story for Themyscira; and Booster Gold.

The creative “architects” for the DCU were also announced and are comic book writer Tom King (Mister Miracle, Batman), filmmaker Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Martian), Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater and screenwriter Christina Hodson, who previously scripted Birds of Prey, the canceled Batgirl film and the upcoming The Flash movie.

First Animated DCU Series Will Be Creature Commandos

Created by writer J. M. DeMatteis and artist Pat Broderick and introduced in 1980’s Weird War Tales #93, the first Creature Commandos team consisted of Lt. Matthew Shrieve, a human; Warren Griffith; a werewolf; Sgt. Vincent Velcro, a vampire; Pvt. Elliot “Lucky” Taylor; a monster; and Dr. Myrna Rhodes, a gorgon. Stories featuring the military superhumans were originally set in World War II, but Gunn’s seven-episode animated series will be set in the present day. The voice actors have yet to be cast but DC Studios is looking to find people who can voice the animated characters and portray them in live-action projects.

An Amanda Waller series had previously been rumored for the DCU but is now officially confirmed. Davis, who first appeared as the A.R.G.U.S. officer in 2016’s Suicide Squad, will reprise the role in Waller, which will be set between Peacemaker‘s first season and the upcoming second season. Lanterns will follow both John Stewart and Hal Jordan — arguably the most well-known Green Lanterns — and takes the place of Greg Berlanti’s Green Lantern series, which has been scrapped. Paradise Lost will be centered around the island of Themyscira, which is the home and sanctuary of the Amazons. The upcoming live-action series will be a prequel to Wonder Woman, but it is unknown at this time how connected — if at all — it will be to the Gal Gadot-led films.

Gunn’s DCU will officially kick off on July 11, 2025, when the first Chapter One film — Superman: Legacy — opens in theaters.
