Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa claims even he doesn’t know which Batman will appear in the final cut of the upcoming movie.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Jason Momoa revealed that he doesn’t know which Batman will appear in the upcoming sequel.
In an interview with TheWrap at the Sundance Film Festival, Momoa stated he doesn’t know what the final cut of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will look like. “I shot with a couple different Batmans, but you just don’t know what’s going on and we’ll see what the end product is,” the actor said. The Batmans he was referring to are likely Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton.
Momoa posted a video from the Warner Bros. lot in July 2022, which featured Affleck, revealing to DC fans that the actor would be reprising his role as the Dark Knight in the Aquaman sequel. About a month later, Momoa talked about how happy he was to reunite with Affleck for the film. “It’s just hugs and kisses. I love that guy,” he said. “We get along too well. It’s very good to see him again.” Momoa and Affleck previously portrayed Aquaman and Batman together in 2017’s Justice League and its 2021 director’s cut Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Which Batman Appears in Aquaman 2?
After Momoa’s video was released, it was reported that Affleck would be replacing Michael Keaton in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, the film’s Batman situation became more unsure when Momoa suggested that Affleck might not appear in the final cut of the movie after all. In addition, he revealed that the film could actually feature multiple Batmen instead of just one. “Well, I can’t tell you anything about the reunion,” Momoa said, playing coy about the DC film. “[Affleck] may or may not be in [Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom] and there could be more or less, or even more Batmans in it. Who knows? You can only know a little bit.”
While it is unclear whether Keaton will appear in Lost Kingdom, it has been confirmed that he will star in The Flash, another DC film raising many questions among fans. The Flash, which is slated for release on June 23, 2023, is expected to adapt aspects of the Flashpoint comic (by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert) and feature Keaton’s Batman alongside Affleck. Speaking about donning the batsuit again after several decades, Keaton said, “It seemed like fun. I was curious what it would be like after this many years. Not so much me doing it — obviously, some of that — but I was just curious about it, weirdly, socially. This whole thing is gigantic. They have their entirely own world. So, I like to look at it as an outsider, thinking ‘Holy moly!'”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom swims into theaters on Dec. 25, 2023.
