Details emerged about actor Jeremy Renner’s accident in early January, revealing he sustained his injuries while saving his nephew from the snowplow.
The new police report obtained by CNN showed that the actor attempted to climb back into the rolling snowplow after he realized it had begun to slide toward his nephew. “Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward (his nephew),” the report states. “He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully.” In order to climb into the snowplow, he had to step onto the moving track, which pulled him under the plow immediately and crushed Renner’s chest.
The report ultimately concluded that the accident might have involved mechanical issues, but the pain issue stemmed from not engaging the parking brake. According to the report, “Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”
