Riot Games has confirmed the theft of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics source codes.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, a social engineering attack resulted in the robbery of source codes for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. Consequently, Riot received an email detailing a ransom, which the studio says it will not pay. Fortunately, Riot assures players that their personal information was not compromised. The source code “can increase the likelihood of new cheats emerging” but also includes a “number of experimental features” as well. “We’re committed to transparency and will release a full report in the future detailing the attackers’ techniques, the areas where Riot’s security controls failed, and the steps we’re taking to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” Riot wrote.
League of Legends is available for free on macOS and PC.
