A new rumor claims that Disney+ show Loki’s upcoming second season will include a Kang variant from the 90s comic book series Avengers: Forever.
A new Loki rumor may have just revealed the identity of one of Kang’s Marvel Comics-inspired variants in Season 2.
The rumor comes courtesy of reputable scooper Daniel Richtman’s Patreon account. It claims that Loki‘s second season will feature multiple versions of Kang, including one who is “an inventor in the past wanting to buy stuff from people to affect the future.” As one of Richtman’s Patreon subscribers noted, this broadly matches the description of Kang variant Victor Timely, who first appeared in classic 90s comic book series Avengers: Forever by writers Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern and artist Carlos Pacheco. Richtman responded that he couldn’t say for sure that Loki‘s “inventor Kang” is Timely, however, he suspected this was the case. That said, neither Marvel Studios nor Disney+ have confirmed Victor Timely’s inclusion in Loki Season 2, which means this rumor should be treated as pure speculation for now.
Loki introduced Kang to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Season 1 finale, “For All Time. Always.” Here, a variant of the supervillain calling himself He Who Remains reveals that he created the MCU’s singular timeline to prevent a multiversal war between his counterparts from different realities. He Who Remains is portrayed by Jonathan Majors in Loki, and the actor is set to portray Kang himself in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Majors previously confirmed that he only signed on for the Ant-Man sequel after he wrapped shooting on Loki, as playing He Who Remains left him eager to explore other facets of Kang’s character.
Tom Hiddleston Talks Up Loki Season 2
It’s currently unclear whether Majors will appear in Loki Season 2, despite persistent rumors of Kang’s involvement in the plot. Indeed, little is known about what’s in store for fans in the show’s second season. Loki was featured in a recent 30-second promo teasing Disney+’s 2023 line-up of original programming, however, this provided few clues about Season 2’s narrative. The promo nevertheless provided fans their first official glimpse of Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) embarking on their next adventure, which star Gugu Mbatha-Raw previously described as “bolder and more surreal” than what came before.
Loki and Mobius will encounter several new faces along the way, including Everything Everywhere All at Once‘s Ke Huy Quan. Quan discussed shooting Loki Season 2 in a recent interview, recalling how excited Hiddleston was to be acting opposite him. “[Hiddleston] said, ‘Oh my gosh, I cannot believe I am working with Short Round from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom‘… he was so cute and so kind,” Quan said.
Loki Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+. Season 2 is slated to premiere on the platform in Summer 2023.
