Lychee Light Club Creator Usamaru Furuya Releases Anniversary Collaboration Book With Yama Wayama

15th anniversary book features spinoff, art by both creators

Manga creator Usamaru Furuya revealed on Friday that he is collaborating with Yama Wayama (Onna no Sono no Hoshi, Let’s Go Karaoke!) on a special book to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Furuya’s Lychee Light Club manga. The book will launch on December 21.

The 88-page color book will include Furuya’s unreleased 43-page spinoff “Yumemiru Gantai” about club members Zera and Jaibo after the end of the story. The book will feature a collection of short Lychee Light Club manga by Wayama before her debut as a creator. There will also be color illustrations not included in the book by Furuya and Wayama as well as a discussion between the creators.

The book will get an early release at an exhibit at the Vanilla Gallery in Tokyo starting on December 16 that will last until January 25.

Usamaru Furuya‘s one-volume Lychee Light Club manga ran in Manga Erotics F from 2005 to 2006. North American publisher Vertical released the manga in April 2011. Furuya also drew the Bokura no Hikari Club (Our Light Club) prequel manga, which ended in 2012. The manga was published online for free in Ohta Publishing‘s PocoPoco web manga magazine.

The manga inspired a stage play in 2012, and the play’s cast voiced a television anime as well. Crunchyroll streamed the television anime into several countries as it aired in Japan. The manga also inspired a live-action film adaptation.

Furuya launched the Lunatic Circus manga in August 2020. Furuya launched the Amane Gymnasium manga in Morning two magazine in January 2017, and ended it in August 2020.

Furuya’s other manga include Teiichi no Kuni, No Longer Human, 51 Ways to Save Her, and Genkaku Picasso. DC ComicsCMX Manga announced 51 Ways to Save Her, but did not release it before shutting down in 2010. Viz Media released Genkaku Picasso in English, and Vertical released No Longer Human in English.

Wayama is known for her Captivated, by You (Muchū sa, Kimi ni.), Let’s Go Karaoke! (Karaoke Iko!) and Onna no Sono no Hoshi manga. Yen Press licensed the Captivated, by You and Let’s Go Karaoke! manga for English release.
