It’s the end of an era after Paramount shutters MTV News as layoffs continue to mount.


According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV News signed off for good this week. The program was 36 years old and best known for anchors Kurt Loder, Suchin Pak, and Serena Altschul. As Paramount Global seeks to reduce spending, MTV News was one of the first to go given its relatively low ratings in the modern media era. Per Comscore, MTV.com pulled in 6 million monthly visitors in March 2023, marginally better than the 5.6 million it attracted in 2022.
