Pedro Pascal fans are drawing comparisons between the actor’s lead characters in HBO’s The Last of Us and Disney+’s The Mandalorian online.
Pedro Pascal fans are starting to notice how similar the actor’s lead role in The Last of Us is to his starring role in The Mandalorian, with many being unable to not compare the two online.
Following the series premiere of The Last of Us on HBO and HBO Max, fans have taken to Twitter to address the similarities between The Last of Us‘ Joel and The Mandalorian‘s Din Djarin, both of whom are played by Pascal. Although the shows have vastly different settings and characters, comparisons have been drawn between the two solely because Pascal plays an adoptive single father tasked with guarding a younger companion in both series. However, fans seemingly have no issue with Pascal “double-dipping” the character type, with many implying his involvement is what has led both projects to receive near-unanimous critical acclaim.
Ahead of The Last of Us, Pascal starred as the titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin, in two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. The series — set five years after 1983’s Return of the Jedi — follows the lone bounty hunter as he goes on the run to protect Grogu, a force-sensitive child colloquially known as “Baby Yoda” by viewers. The third season of The Mandalorian is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 1, with a fourth season already in development.
The Last of Us Praised by Critics and Fans
Based on the 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us follows Pascal’s Joel, a hardened survivor, who is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone decades after modern civilization has been destroyed and overrun by fungus-infected monsters known as “Clickers.” Similar to the video game, the HBO series has been positively received by critics, with The Last of Us currently sitting at 99% certified fresh on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes.
In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, The Last of Us stars Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Storm Reid as Riley, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon, and Elaine Miles as Florence. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who respectively portrayed Ellie and Joel in the video games, appear as Anna, Ellie’s mother, and James, a senior member of a group of settlers, respectively.
The first episode of The Last of Us, “When You’re Lost in the Darkness,” is currently streaming on HBO Max.
