Rick and Morty fans flock to social media to declare their support for a popular TikTok voice actor as a possible replacement for Justin Roiland.

Rick and Morty fans believed they found the perfect impressionist to take over as the voice of the series’ leading duo, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith.

Fans flocked to social media to nominate popular TikToker and voice actor Sean Kelly (@seankellysays) as a substitute for Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland, who was dropped from the show after he was accused of committing felony-level domestic violence by an anonymous woman whom he previously dated. Users claimed Kelly was a perfect fit for the titular protagonists of Rick and Morty, with fans posting clips that showcased Kelly’s ability to perfectly mimic the iconic voices and verbal tics of several beloved characters.

Adult Swim Severes Ties With Roiland

Adult Swim announced it was parting ways with Roiland following the recent felony domestic violence charges that were leveled against the voice actor. Sources claimed that, while Roiland will no longer provide the voices for several of the show’s characters, the studio planned to recast Roiland’s roles and continue the series. Fellow creator Dan Harmon will reportedly take over as the sole showrunner for Rick and Morty and is expected to oversee production of the series until its tenth season.

As for Roiland, the voice actor previously appeared in court on Jan. 12 for a pre-trial hearing regarding the domestic violence allegations. The charges accused Roiland of one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit. At the time of writing, further details regarding the court proceedings remain scarce. Roiland is scheduled to appear in another hearing on April 27, though no trial date has been set.

In response to the allegations, Roiland’s legal representative, Attorney T. Edward Welbourn, released a statement defending Roiland. Welbourn further claimed they were confident that the case will end in Roiland’s favor. “It is hard to overstate how inaccurate the recent media coverage of this situation has been,” Welbourn explained. “To be clear, not only is Justin innocent but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the District Attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence. We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”
