Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint reveals that he is open to reprising his role as Ron Weasley in future Wizarding World content if other actors returned.
It’s important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. CBR supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love, and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. Harry Potter star Rupert Grint to playing Ron Weasley again.
On Jan. 26, Grint appeared on This Morning alongside his Knock at the Cabin co-star Ben Aldridge and discussed the upcoming psychological thriller. The Harry Potter actor also expressed interest in reprising his role as Ron Weasley in future Wizarding World content. “Yeah, I think if the timing was right and everyone was kinda coming back, I would definitely revisit it,” said Grint. “It’s a character that’s important to me. I kinda grew up with him. We kinda became the same person. I feel very protective of him as well.”
As Ron, the titular character’s best friend, Grint began his film career in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He later played the character throughout all eight film entries of the Wizarding World franchise. Harry Potter‘s Golden Trio consists of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson). The three actors, along with most of the Harry Potter franchise cast, reunited at the 2022 HBO Max special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
After the release of The Sorcerer’s Stone, Grint began looking elsewhere for other film opportunities. In 2002, he starred in Thunderpants and the franchise’s second entry, Chamber of Secrets. After Harry Potter, Grint served as the executive producer and starred in the television series Snatched and made his on-stage debut in 2013’s Mojo.
Will Daniel Radcliffe Ever Return to Harry Potter?
While Grint expressed interest in taking up the wand again, Radcliffe had a different response when asked if he was willing to don his Hogwarts robes once again. “I’m getting to a point where I feel like I made it out of Potter OK and I’m really happy with where I am now, and to go back would be such a massive change to my life,” Radcliffe said in 2022. The actor recently portrayed the titular musician in the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Weird Al himself was at one point interested in doing a Harry Potter parody, but he was unable to obtain the rights to John Williams’ “Hedwig’s Theme.”
Beyond the Wizarding World series’ mainline installments, the franchise had varying success with the Fantastic Beasts films. However, the future for Newt Scamander is currently uncertain. Reportedly, Warner Bros. Discovery has no Fantastic Beasts films in “active development” as of November 2022. Originally planned as a five-film series, Warner Bros. declared it would wait and see how The Secrets of Dumbledore performed before ordering a fourth and fifth movie. The 2022 film ultimately became the lowest-grossing installment of the Wizarding World franchise.
All eight Harry Potter films and three Fantastic Beasts movies are available to stream on HBO Max.
