India witnessed numerous wars post its independence which was a pivotal point in its history. These wars did not only help gain control over strategic points on our borders but also a major win from the political viewpoint. Most of these wars are fought with the neighboring country, Pakistan. Starting from the first Indo-Pakistani war in 1947 to the war at Kargil, many wars were fought between the neighbors. The main reason being the control over Kashmir. The prowess of Indian soldiers was tested in each battle, and they excelled every time. To teach the lesson of perseverance and bravery through these wars, many movies were created. Shershaah is one such movie whose release date is pretty near. The to-be-released movie will be based on one of the important figures of the Kargil war. Making Of Shershaah
The movie will serve as the biopic for the Kargil hero Captain Vikram Batra, PVC. Karan Johar had shown his interest in making this biopic back in 2018. And in 2019, he started the project under his filming banner Dharma Productions. The movie was officially announced on 2 May 2019. With this, the shooting locations were also declared. The locations included were Chandigarh, Kargil-Ladakh, Palampur, and Kashmir. The principal shooting started on 7 May 2019. Shershaah was completed by January of 2020. The film was initially set to be released on 3 July 2020. But with the spreading pandemic, the release was shifted to later dates. The film is directed by Vishnuvardhan, and Shershaah marks his debut in Bollywood. However, he is a household name in the Tamil film industry. Vishnu is well known for making back-to-back box office hits.
Two of the songs from the movie have been released till now. One of them is Raataan Lambiyan which is sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Asees Kaur. It is written by Tanishk Bagchi. The other song is Ranjha, sung by B Praak and Jasleen Royal. Lyrics to this song were written by Anvita Dutt.
Cast of Shershaah
After a lot of screening, Sidharth Malhotra was chosen to play the lead role of Captain Vikram Batra, PVC. He will also be playing the role of Batra’s twin brother in the movie. Batra’s fiancée Dimple Cheema will be portrayed by Kiara Advani. Sidharth underwent military training to get into the role of a soldier. He even performed all the stunts in the movie by himself. During the shooting, he was injured for a brief period. Alongside these two, we will also see Shiv Pandit, Nikitin Dheer, Himanshu Malhotra, Anil Charanjeett, Sahil Vaid, and Raj Arjun.

Who Is Shershaah Movie Based On?
Shershaah will serve as the biopic for the brave Captain Vikram Batra, PVC. Captain Batra was born on 9 September 1974 in Palampur, Uttar Pradesh. His parents were Girdhari Lal Batra and Kamal Kanta Batra. He completed his schooling in DAV Palampur and later in Central School, Palampur. Batra entered the DAV College, Chandigarh, and studied B.Sc Medical Sciences. Here, he joined the National Cadet Corps in the Air Wing. During NCC camps, he was ranked the best in his wing. He also underwent para trooping training while in NCC. After graduating, he entered Panjab University for MA in English. This was because he planned to prepare for Combined Defense Services. He passed the exam in 1996 and ranked in the top 35. Batra left for the Indian Military Academy in 1996.
Batra graduated from IMA in December 1997 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was commissioned into the 13th Battalion, Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. Batra continued his training till 1998 in Jabalpur. After that, he was sent to Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. Batra subsequently climbed the ranks to become a Captain. He played a major role in the Kargil war of 1999 by capturing back many locations taken by Pakistani soldiers. Batra choose the line “Yeh Dil Mange More!” based on a Pepsi commercial as his success signal. He bravely fought through lines of enemies until meeting his demise on 7 July 1999. The enemies gave him the nickname “Sher Shah,” as was intercepted from their messages. For his battle efforts and successful operations, he was awarded the highest military honor of India, the Param Vir Chakra, on 15 August 1999.
Shershaah Release Date
Initially, the movie was planned to be released in theatres on 3 July 2020. But with the ongoing pandemic, it was put on hold. Finally, Shershaah is all set to release on 12 August 2021. The movie will be available to watch on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. It may also release in the cinema halls of those states of India, where lockdown has lifted. But of course, it is best advised to watch this patriotic piece of art from the safety of your home and pay homage to these brave souls by staying home and saving your own lives.
