Sumire Uesaka Visits Thundercat in the Studio

Japanese pop and anime star Sumire Uesaka was invited to come and hang out with two-time Grammy Award Winning artist Thundercat while he was in Japan.

Thundercat – who has worked with the likes of Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar, was a former member of Suicidal Tendencies, and made his acting debut in Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett – mentioned in a recent interview that his favourite singer in Japan was Sumire Uesaka. He particularly liked her track ‘POP TEAM EPIC‘ (good choice, Mr. Thundercat!).

The song was Sumire Uesaka‘s first big international hit, being streamed over 15-million times and entering viral charts around the world following its use as the anime POP TEAM EPIC opening theme song. This track set a new standard for Sumire Uesaka‘s releases, with recent single EASY LOVE (opening theme for the anime Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro) being streamed over 7.5 million times on Spotify alone, and latest release Life Is Hard DAME DINERO also proving popular.

When Thundercat came to Japan for a tour, he invited her and her team to the concert and to his studio recording session. Sumire wrote on Instagram; “I had the pleasure of visiting Thundercat in the studio during his Japan visit! I never thought I would meet him! I had a great time listening to songs and having a session with him!”

Thundercat kindly signed the tenth anniversary pressing of his album The Golden Age of Apocalypse for Sumire with this message; “To Sumire (my favorite), I love you and your work so much! Thank you!”

Sumire Uesaka is currently experiencing a lot of attention in Japan since being cast as the voice of Lum, for a new series of classic anime Urusei Yatsura. She recently announced that her fifth album is due later this year. Her previous two albums No Future Vacances(which includes ‘POP TEAM EPIC‘) and NEO PROPAGANDA are out now on CD from JPU Records.

Sumire Uesaka‘s tour final concert from her recent ‘Super Revolutionary Legend’ tour will be streamed from 28 May, so don’t miss it! It will be archived until 12 June. English streaming information can be found here:
