The CW’s first trailer for Superman and Lois Season 3 features the return of fans’ favorite heroic family but also hints at a major death.
Superman and Lois Season 3 drops its first trailer and it’s teasing some major tragic moments.
The brief video begins with the titular Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) mentioning to her husband Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) that she may be pregnant before cutting to the reveal that she’s missing. While details around the plot are still largely unknown, the clips suggest Superman will embark upon a quest to find his wife while facing down a plethora of other threats. The trailer culminates in what appears to be the destruction of the Daily Planet building with Lois seemingly caught in its falling rubble. Many fans have taken Lois’s pregnancy and hinted-at-death to mean Season 3 could be taking cues from the popular Injustice storyline.
The trailer also provided fans with a peek at Michael Bishop as Jonathan Kent as the actor takes over the role from Jordan Elsass, who confirmed he would not be returning for Superman and Lois Season 3. Elsass revealed that he was stepping away from the show for personal reasons. “It’s sad, it’s a real shame. I know that I was pumped for Season 3, for sure, but what are you going to do?” the actor said. “Anyway, mental health is definitely 100-percent priority. It’s pinnacle. It’s got to take precedence.”
The Villain of Superman and Lois Season 3
As for who the titular couple will be battling in Season 3, fans can expect to see The Walking Dead alum Chad L. Coleman playing the part of Bruno Mannheim. Known throughout Metropolis as a philanthropist and local hero, Lois has spent years attempting to expose the villain who, based on Season 2’s conclusion, also has major ties to the notorious organization known as Intergang.
One villain audiences definitely won’t see is the Arrowverse’s very own Lex Luthor, played by Jon Cryer. The actor has made it clear that he won’t be reprising his role after news broke that Superman and Lois was looking to cast a new actor as the Man of Steel’s most iconic adversary. Some fans believe the search for a different Lex is to further separate Superman and Lois from the rest of The CW’s superhero franchise after Season 2 confirmed the pair live on an entirely different universe.
Superman and Lois premieres on The CW on March 14.
