The Bad Batch Star Was ‘Genuinely Devastated’ by Season 2’s Shocking Finale

Omega in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2

The following article contains major spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2, Episodes 15 and 16, “The Summit” and “Plan 99,” now streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch star Michelle Ang says she was “genuinely devastated” by the shocking events of Season 2’s two-episode finale.

During an interview with, Ang — who voices Omega on The Bad Batch — revealed that while reading the scripts for Season 2’s last two episodes, she was blindsided by the plot point of Tech sacrificing himself to save the rest of the team. “I normally get the scripts about a week before the recording session, which is really plenty to read and internalize what’s going on,” she said. “But I had no idea — not even an inkling! — that we were going to lose one of the Batch. And definitely not Tech! If anything, it felt like they were building Tech up to be the new primary relationship. So, I was genuinely devastated. It felt a little bit like it was a prank or something. I was really shocked.”

As one might expect, it wasn’t difficult for Ang to get into the headspace to portray Omega’s grief. “It was pretty easy to get there just because of the way that the story had been shaped,” she said. “After Tech saves the lives of Omega and his brothers, the episode continues, giving fans and the characters some time to explore their grief ‘and the momentousness of reconfiguring who we were as a team.’ That’s kinda mean isn’t it? But I feel like that’s what sort of makes it more heartfelt in a way because of this whole ethos behind who the Batch are and what they stand for. They’re not going to let that sentimentality have them deviate from what they view as their purpose, you know? And I think that’s sort of the bittersweetness of it. If everything had crumbled at that moment, that would’ve almost been less sad for some reason. But the fact that they still have so many other things coming at them that they have to keep going is what makes it that much more sad and painful and sweet.”

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Closes the Book on Season 2

The Bad Batch initially premiered on Disney+ in May 2021 as follow-up to fellow animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The spinoff centers on Clone Force 99, an elite squad of Clone Troopers with genetic mutations first introduced in The Clone Wars‘ final season. The Bad Batch takes place in the immediate aftermath of the fabled Clone Wars, with Clone Force 99 becoming fugitives from the newly-established Galactic Empire.

The Bad Batch‘s second season premiered on Disney+ this past January and, like Season 1, ran for a total of 16 episodes. The series has yet to officially be renewed for Season 3. However, given the show’s positive reception and Season 2’s cliffhanger ending, it seems likely that Disney and Lucasfilm will give a third installment the green light.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Disney+ in their entirety.
