The Book of Boba Fett Director Plays Coy on the Bounty Hunter’s Star Wars Future

Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison, in The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett director Robert Rodriguez recently played coy on whether fans can expect a second season of the Disney+ show.

Rodriguez neither confirmed nor denied that The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 is currently in the works during an interview with Gizmodo. “I can’t say,” he said. “I’m sworn to secrecy. I wish I could tell you. I know all the answers to what you’re asking, but I can’t say.” A spinoff from another Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett debuted in December 2021 and ran for seven episodes. Rodriguez directed three of these episodes, including the season finale, “Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor,” which aired on Feb. 9, 2022.

Both Lucasfilm and Disney+ have remained tight-lipped regarding The Book of Boba Fett‘s future since then, although a recent report suggests that another batch of episodes is indeed on the way. According to the report, production crews in Southern California are currently fabricating several Boba Fett-related props and sets, including the cockpit of the legendary bounty hunter’s starship, Slave I. If true, this could indicate that Lucasfilm is moving forward with The Book of Boba Fett Season 2, although it’s also possible that these props and sets are being manufactured for a different Star Wars project, instead.

Dave Filoni Discusses the Star Wars Crossover Movie

One such Star Wars outing that fits the bill is the as-yet-untitled movie being developed by The Book of Boba Fett creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni. Little is known about the plot of the film at this stage, however, Lucasfilm previously confirmed that it will bring together characters from several Disney+ shows, including The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Despite this, Filoni recently insisted that the crossover film’s character roster won’t be driven by fan service. “I think one thing we’re in agreement about is that the characters — as special as they are — the story has to drive what characters are,” he said.

Filoni declined to mention which heroes and villains he and Favreau currently have in mind for their Star Wars movie, leaving fans to speculate for now. A baddie whose name continues to be bandied about as a possible contender is Cad Bane, who last appeared in the Book of Boba Fett finale. The blue-skinned baddie seemingly died in that episode, however, text in the new licensed guidebook Star Wars: Timelines hints that he may actually be alive still.

All seven episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are currently streaming on Disney+.
