The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 5 Review

The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 5 tells us a lot more about Cora than ever before. Well, the show suggests that Cora has been through a lot after the pain that Michael had inflicted upon her. But that doesn’t mean that she herself is a perfect person. We have been coming around this sub-plot since the previous episode and the fifth episode explores it in a full blow.

Despite the fact Cora went through dark days, she had people who cared about her. For starters, it was Martha who had always been by her side as a friend. Cora may not accept Martha as her love, but then there was Luke Garrett, who literally poured out all of his heart for her.

So Cora did receive everything she wanted, but she always ignored her true love. She went after something she may never have. A dating pattern Martha told the viewers about in the previous episode. This, therefore, led Cora to the destruction of her own, where she has no one by her side anymore.

Right now, her goal to chase the Essex Serpent is also on pause. A single fossil doesn’t prove anything, and she may need to head back to Essex in order to find more clues. But that’s hardly possible now, considering the fact that the village rejects her and believes she is the devil who is summoning the Serpent.

Cora’s return to Essex will definitely see her crossing paths with Will. Now with Stella having limited days, we wonder if there is a chance Will and Cora’s relationship will blossom. Will may also back out of this, considering this a sin. After all, we saw him believing that he was being judged for his actions towards the end of the fifth episode.
