A sketch from The Flash director Andy Muschietti has fans speculating that the upcoming movie will feature a secret villain in the form of Reverse-Flash.
Shared on Muschietti’s Instagram, the picture sees Reverse-Flash staring at the viewer while giving an evil grin, with his costume having lines on it similar to that of the Fastest Man Alive’s in the film as well as red blotches and scribbles. At this time, however, there hasn’t been official confirmation on whether Reverse-Flash is in the movie at all, or if he has anything to do with its villain, Dark Flash.
Michael Shannon Returns as General Zod
While it’s not yet known if Reverse-Flash will pop up in The Flash, the movie will see Man of Steel star Michael Shannon return to the role of General Zod, though the actor revealed that he was “a little confused” when Muschietti asked him to play Zod in it. “As memory serves me, I think I died in Man of Steel,” continued Shannon. “Are they sure they got the right guy? But then they explained to me the whole multiverse phenomenon, which… I was a little behind the times on that. I can’t say that I’m a huge consumer of this genre of films — not that I have anything against them. If I’m going to watch a movie, the odds are it’s not going to be one of those, but I sure love making them.”
More recently, Shannon said that he explained to Muschietti that he had to get Man of Steel director Zack Snyder’s blessing on the reprisal of the role as it “just [didn’t] feel right without that.” Shannon further stated, “Zack, to his credit, was very understanding. He gave me his blessing, and I went to do it.”
As for the movie itself, Muschietti touched upon The Flash potentially getting a sequel, commenting, “We didn’t talk about it [during production]. I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing and it’s being created. And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story? The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact, and so, hopefully, yes, I mean, we don’t know yet. That’s the truth.”
The Flash arrives in theaters on June 16.
