Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider – How Long to Beat & Complete

Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is the newest game by the creators of Blazing Chrome. Here’s how long players can expect to spend playing it.

Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is the newest game from JoyMasher, a Brazil-based indie developer that prides itself on making retro-style games that modern gamers will love. The studio has become quite well known within the indie gaming community for putting out games with a great combination of visuals, music, combat and controls while honoring some of the best old-school games, and this one is no exception. Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is a side-scrolling action game that resembles some of the best early ’90s 16-bit games.

In the game, players control Moonrider, a robot who has been forcibly oppressing people as a so-called peacekeeper. Confronted with the weight of its actions, Moonrider goes against its programming during a rebel uprising. The game is a good mix of titles like Strider, Mega Man, Metroid and Shinobi in terms of gameplay and art design. It not only brings a retro feel through its aesthetics and visuals but also through its level design, which can get quite tough as the game goes on, especially if the player forgets to nab power-ups as they progress. Whether or not they’re new to these retro-style games, here’s how long players can expect to spend on the game.

Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider isn’t exactly an epic when it comes to playthrough time. In fact, the runtime of the game is on the short end, even for an indie game. The game will see players hunting down the other guardians tasked with taking down Moonrider. These bosses can be approached in any order that the player wishes, and each eliminated boss will get the player a special ability that can be used in combat, such as weapons like throwing stars.

However, just like the best of the retro games it seems to be inspired by, it can be downright challenging at some points, and players should expect to find themselves restarting a boss fight or two. All in all, it’ll take most players anywhere from two to three hours to finish a single playthrough of the game.

How Long It Takes To Complete Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider

As mentioned, Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is rather short, but it’s also the kind of game where players won’t necessarily be satisfied by only playing once and never touching it again. Each stage of the game is scored, and that score is greatly affected by how long it takes to complete the level. As such, this game is one that welcomes a fair bit of replay value, as players will want to get their completion times down so as to get the best score they can. Perhaps it goes without saying, but this makes the game perfect for speedrunners, and it’s easy to imagine them replaying the game multiple times to shave some seconds off their times.

Also, the new abilities that the player can activate throughout the game (for example, enhanced armor) can only be activated two at a time, so players might have some fun testing out different builds. There is not a lot to do when it comes to achievements, but there are a few completion achievements, such as finishing every level above a particular rank and beating an entire level without taking damage. However, completionists shouldn’t struggle too much or need to dedicate that much more time to this one.
