Wacom and Pixiv Present Drawfest – An Online, Interactive Drawing Festival for the Global Art Community

Higurashi: When They Cry - SOTSU Arrives This Summer on Funimation

~ All who love to draw, learn new skills, and exchange ideas are invited to join the event’s private YouTube Live stream from May 21 to 23. ~

pixiv Inc. and Wacom, both headquartered in Japan, announce Drawfest, a hands-on, live event streamed on YouTube from May 21 to 23, consisting of eight livestream programs that are each one to four hours long. In addition to online workshops and lectures held by an assortment of internationally recognized illustrators, animators, and comic artists, there will also be programs for the audience to draw together with the lecturers. Everyone who draws is welcome. The event will offer simultaneous interpretation in both Japanese and English so that international viewers will be able to participate in the festival.

Thanks to the sponsorship of Adobe, hololive English, NetEase, Netflix, and WIT STUDIO, there will be programs that allow the audience and the artists to draw art with specific themes such as hololive English, Identity V, and GREAT PRETENDER. The finished artwork will then be presented to the audience.

In recent years, anime art-related content has attracted many fans regardless of nationality or language. At the same time, artists worldwide have also been able to overcome language barriers and reach fans all over the world thanks to the rapidly changing environment.

Art is universal and has a unique way of helping break down the barriers of regional and language differences. Drawfest was created with the hope of providing an online event with simultaneous Japanese-English interpretation to give creators the chance to get together with other like-minded artists from all over the world so that everyone could interact and draw together.

“Anime, the hand-drawn and computer animation style originating in Japan, has seen its popularity grow and artists and fans can now be found in virtually every country around the globe,” says Nobutaka Ide, CEO of Wacom Company Ltd. “By teaming up with pixiv on Drawfest, we are creating a cross-boundary and cross-language platform for artists and designers to share their passion for drawing and learning from others.”

Additional sponsorships from Adobe, hololive English, NetEase, Netflix, and WIT STUDIO, are helping provide sessions on specific anime themes, such as hololive English, Identity V, and GREAT PRETENDER.
