The worst member’s powers were finally justified thanks to some of Marvel’s Eternals deleted scenes. The Eternals were created to protect the Earth. And each member possessed a special ability such as flight, super strength, speed, or healing to aid them in their fight against the Deviants. Sprite’s ability to create illusions, on the other hand, never made sense in this context.
The Eternals deleted scene from last year’s star-studded MCU film, which grossed $400 million worldwide, has been revealed by Marvel Studios. The video includes a new scene starring Lia McHugh’s Sprite and Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman. In which Sprite expresses her displeasure with Sersi’s relationship with Dane, who is unaware of their abilities.
Marvel’s Eternals Scenes Breakdown
We can see Sprite’s (Lia McHugh) relationship with Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington), Sersi’s (Gemma Chan) seemingly normal boyfriend in a new Eternals deleted scene. Sprite’s ability is to create illusions. Illusions which she uses to hide the fact that, despite being centuries old like her Eternal peers. She is forever trapped in the body of a child. Sprite’s childlike look allows her to get away with these things that a grown woman would be labeled insane for — in this scene, she reveals the truth about who and what the Eternals are, as well as their role in human history.
“How come they can’t get Thena’s likeness just right?” In the deleted scene, Sprite asks rhetorically. When Whitman corrects her and tells her it’s Athena, not Thena, she looks at him as if he’s the stupidest man alive, which is especially hurtful coming from a child. Sprite goes on to explain how humanity works, why humans are at the top of the food chain. And how the concepts humans believe in, such as gods, nations, and money, are all illusions she created. Sprite pivots and corners Whitman about his intentions with Sersi after she’s shared more than anyone else could get away with.
Several Ways To Approach This Scene
This deleted scene has several layers to interpretation. And while it wasn’t necessary for the film, it adds to our understanding of Whitman, who we don’t get to see much of during the main narrative arc of Eternals. At the conclusion of the film, it is revealed that he knows a lot more about superheroes and their history on Earth than he lets on. However, we don’t have much time to figure out what he really knows. On the surface, this scene appears to be a fight between a stubborn child and her aunt’s new boyfriend over who knows her better. Sprite knows Sersi better than everyone else because they’ve been together for thousands of years. But she’s also resentful of her appearance, which makes her spiteful.
We know that everything Sprite says is true beneath the surface. Whitman, on the other hand, is a skeptic. When you first see the movie, you might think he’s just a regular guy trying to win over his girlfriend’s niece. On second viewing, however, he appears to be taking Sprite more seriously than he would like to admit. However, the likability of both of these characters is debatable. This deleted scene adds some humor to the film that each of them could have used more of. When you consider that Sprite has had to deal with Sersi’s drama for centuries without ever being able to find love of her own, her resentment of her personal circumstances becomes a little more understandable.
