FX’s What We Do in the Shadows has announced the official premiere date for Season 5.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 5 of What We Do in the Shadows will return to FX with a two-episode premiere on July 13. The first of the two episodes will premiere at 10 p.m. EST.
Created by Jemaine Clement, What We Do in the Shadows premiered on FX in 2019 and is based on the 2014 film of the same name, which was written by both Clement and Taika Waititi. The mockumentary comedy horror series follows four vampires living as roommates on Staten Island. Season 2 premiered in April 2020, and the series was renewed for a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 premiere in September 2021. What We Do in the Shadows has been nominated for ten Emmy Awards and was renewed for a fifth and sixth season in September 2022.
What We Do in the Shadows Gets Two More Seasons
“There’s a lot of life left in our favorite vampires from Staten Island and FX couldn’t be more thrilled to commit to two additional seasons of this phenomenal series,” said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX when the show was renewed for two additional seasons. “What We Do in the Shadows excels on every level, from the brilliant cast and surprising guest stars to the producers, writers, directors and crew. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy season four, knowing that the next two are on the way.”
The 2014 film What We Do in the Shadows followed a similar premise but was based on four vampire roommates living in Wellington, New Zealand. The mockumentary film also starred Clement and Waititi, along with Jonathan Brugh, Ben Fransham, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford and Jackie van Beek.
FX’s What We Do in the Shadows stars Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, Kayvan Novak as Nandor, as well as Matt Berry as the vampire Laszlo and Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson. Season 4 of What We Do in the Shadows debuted on FX Networks on July 12, 2022, which additionally starred Kristen Shaal as The Guide. Schaal first appeared as a guest star in Season 1 before being bumped to a recurring character in Season 3.
Seasons 1 through 4 of What We Do in the Shadows are now available to stream on Hulu, while the first two episodes of Season 5 will premiere on FX on July 13.
