She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Jameela Jamil revealed that she pulled out of her audition for Netflix’s You because she didn’t want to do any sex scenes.

While appearing on an episode of Podcrushed, hosted by You star Penn Badgley, Jamil explained that she canceled her audition for the show’s fourth season due to her reluctance to act in sex scenes. “I don’t do sex scenes. In fact, I was supposed to audition for the most recent season of your show. My character was supposed to be quite sexy, and I pulled out of the audition because I am so shy about anything sexy that I can’t,” she said. Jamil recently starred as Titania in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

“And then [Badgley] fucking came out and were like, ‘Yeah, I’m not doing sex scenes anymore.’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t even know that was a boundary that we could draw.’ But then I was like, I should have gone and done the fuking show.” In February, Badgley revealed that he had asked showrunner Sera Gamble to go from “100 to zero) in terms of his character’s sex scenes during the show’s fourth season.

“I asked Sera Gamble can I just do no more intimacy scenes,” said the actor, who stars on the popular Netflix series as serial killer Joe Goldberg. “This is actually a decision I made before I took the show. I don’t think I have ever mentioned it publicly. One of the main things was, do I want to put myself back on a career path where I’m always playing the romantic lead? Fidelity in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me. It’s got to the point where I don’t want to do that.”

However, Badgley acknowledged that it would be difficult to completely take “this aspect out of the DNA of the concept.” He said, “So how much less can you make it, was my question to them. She didn’t even bat an eye. She was really glad that I was that honest. She was sort of almost, I want to say empowered, it had a really positive response. They came back with a phenomenal reduction.” You has been renewed for a fifth and final season, but Gamble will not return as showrunner for the next installment. Executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will take over as co-showrunners going forward.

You premiered on Netflix in 2018 and began in New York City, with Joe fixated on a young writer he met in his used bookstore. By the end of Season 4, which premiered on the streaming service in 2023 and primarily took place in London, Joe had returned once again to the Big Apple, this time accompanied by a rich widow named Kate.

The first four seasons of You are available to stream on Netflix. Season 5 does not yet have a release date.
